Carrie Edwards Donates Entire Lottery Winnings to Three Charities

Carrie Edwards, a Virginia resident, has made a significant impact by donating her entire $150,000 VA lottery winnings to three charities. Edwards won the sum in the Sept. 8 lottery drawing, and due to purchasing the Power Play, she also received an extra amount.

Edwards immediately gave her winnings away as three $50,000 gifts. One of these gifts was donated to the Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration (AFTD), in memory of her late husband, Steve, who died from the disorder. The donation is made to support urgent research, education, and family resources for those affected by early-onset dementia.

The second $50,000 donation went to Shalom Farms, a nonprofit farm and food justice organization in Richmond. Shalom Farms works towards an equitable food system and heals through food and soil. Edwards stated that the cause is deeply personal to her.

The third $50,000 donation benefits the Navy-Marine Relief Society. This organisation provides financial, educational, and emergency assistance for active-duty service members, veterans, and their families. Edwards stated that the donation is made to support military families in times of need.

Edwards feels blessed that her lottery win can serve a greater purpose. She hopes that others will be inspired to see unexpected blessings as opportunities to give back. The donation to AFTD was made during World FTD Awareness Month, and the donation to the Navy-Marine Relief Society is a way to honour Edwards' late husband, Steve.

Edwards stated that the three organisations (AFTD, Shalom Farms, and the Navy-Marine Relief Society) represent healing, service, and community. She believes that these values are essential in creating a better world.

It is not yet known which organisation Edwards donated her second $50,000 gift to. However, Edwards' selfless act of giving has undoubtedly made a difference in the lives of many.
