US healthcare startup, established by a Romanian entrepreneur, has been purchased by Function Health

Function Health, the personal health juggernaut renowned for offering accessible annual lab testing, has just bought out Ezra, the brains behind FDA-approved AI tech that turbocharges full-body MRI scans. This acquisition was none other than the child of Romanian genius, Emi Gal.
Now, Function Health is primed to launch a full-body MRI that chops scan time down from a meaty 60 minutes to a lean 22 minutes, with pricing plummeting from a whopping USD 1500 to a reasonable USD 499, says the company.
"By blending Function's galore of lab testing with Ezra's imaging, they're crafting a dataset that lets AI become downright psychic - possibly identifying health issues before they even crop up," a press release reveals.
The 22-minute full-body MRI aims to nab cancer early, often snagging it before any symptoms even show their faces. Besides fighting cancer, this scan can pluck out other issues like silent strokes, shares the company.
"I embarked on Ezra with a crystal-clear mission: to nab early cancer for everyone on this Earth," Emi Gal, Ezra's founder, said. "This vision hits close to home—if my mothercould've caught cancer early, she'd still be with me today. Over the past six years, my team and I have assisted countless people in finding cancer, many of whom are now cancer-free. We're now joining forces with Function to spread this to millions," he added.
"Adding imaging was on our bucket list since day one," Jonathan Swerdlin, co-founder and CEO of Function Health, said. "With Ezra joining our team, we've completed the picture. It's date night for everyone's health, every year. AI's main gig should be saving our hides – and now it is," he concluded.
Emi Gal dabbled in entrepreneurship while he was still studying applied mathematics and computer science at uni, founding Brainient. This ad-tech company later blew up and got gobbled up by Teads Studio in September 2016.
He then hustled to create Ezra in 2018, knowing that "one of the chief problems with cancer treatment is the lack of a speedy, accurate, affordable method to scan everywhere in the body for cancer." Last year, the company banked USD 21 million in a funding round jointly headed by Healthier Capital and led by Amir Dan Rubin, former CEO of Amazon's One Medical.
