Two fresh SugBucas facilities unveiled in Cebu City
New SugBUCAS Centers in Cebu City Offer Comprehensive Health Services
The Department of Health Central Visayas (DOH 7) recently inaugurated the third and fourth Sugbo Bagong Urgent Care and Ambulatory Services Centers (SugBUCAS) in Cebu City on August 6, 2025. The new facilities, SugBucas Capitol and SugBucas Sudlon, aim to provide accessible, efficient, and community-based health services that bridge the gap between barangay-level care and hospital-based services.
SugBucas Capitol, managed by the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC), offers primary care consultations, urgent care services, and same-day surgical procedures for non-emergency cases. The center caters to walk-in patients and provides diagnostic services and follow-up check-ups at its comprehensive Outpatient Department.
SugBucas Sudlon, on the other hand, serves as a full-fledged Outpatient Department, offering routine consultations, diagnostic services, and follow-up check-ups. The facility also caters to walk-in patients with non-life-threatening conditions.
The opening ceremonies for SugBucas Capitol and SugBucas Sudlon were led by DOH Assistant Secretary Christian Saquilabon, Cebu Governor Pamela Baricuatro, Vice Governor Glenn Anthony Soco, and Cebu City Mayor Nestor Archival. With the opening of these facilities, Cebu now has four operational SugBUCAS centers.
The establishment of these SugBUCAS centers is part of the Philippine National Government’s “28 for 28 by 28” initiative to establish 28 such facilities serving 28 million Filipinos by 2028, focusing especially on underserved and low-resource communities in Cebu and beyond. The initiative aims to ease the burden on tertiary hospitals by offering immediate and intermediate healthcare options for non-life-threatening conditions, improving access to timely care, and reducing patient congestion particularly in public hospitals.
In addition to primary care, urgent care, outpatient surgeries, diagnostics, and preventive screenings, SugBUCAS centers also provide preventive health screenings to support early detection and health maintenance.
DOH 7 is planning to establish more SugBUCAS centers in the province next year, further enhancing community health service accessibility and reducing hospital overload.
