Two brothers from Odisha brutally rape a teenage girl, attempting to bury her alive while she is five months pregnant.
In a concerning turn of events, Odisha has witnessed a spate of sexual violence cases over the past week. Here's a breakdown of the incidents that have been reported.
In Jagatsinghpur district, a 15-year-old girl was allegedly kidnapped and gang-raped on an unspecified date. The incident occurred in Bhubaneswar, and two brothers, Bhagyadhar Das and Panchanan Das, have been arrested in connection with the case. The third suspect, Tulu, remains missing, and a manhunt is currently underway to apprehend him. The victim, who became five months pregnant as a result of the alleged crime, managed to escape and reported the ordeal to her father. The accused allegedly attempted to bury the victim alive to conceal their crime. The two arrested suspects have been presented in court.
Another incident of sexual violence was reported in Jagatsinghpur district on Tuesday, where another minor was allegedly kidnapped and raped by two men. No further updates have been provided regarding this case.
Meanwhile, in Malkangiri district, a gang-rape case was reported on Sunday. Three men are suspected in this case, but no arrests have been made as of the latest reports. The victim, who is also a minor, was offered to undergo an abortion, but she managed to escape and report the ordeal to her father.
Unfortunately, these are not the only cases of sexual violence reported in Odisha this week. On Sunday, a 15-year-old girl in Puri's Nimapada block was set on fire by unidentified assailants. She was airlifted to AIIMS in New Delhi for advanced treatment.
This week's cases of sexual violence in Odisha are not isolated incidents. Over the past month, at least 12 rape cases have been reported across the state. Earlier this month, a 20-year-old student at Fakir Mohan Autonomous College in Balasore died after setting herself on fire, allegedly due to the dismissal of her sexual harassment complaint against a teacher. In June this year, five rape and gang-rape cases were reported in the state within a 10-day period.
Authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the police. The Odisha government has also promised to take strict action against the perpetrators of these heinous crimes.
