In a significant move to improve the lives of millions of people in need of care, the Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit has been updated for 2025. This boost, now known as the Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit, offers a tax credit of up to 30% of the cost for qualifying energy-efficient upgrades such as solar panels, energy-efficient windows and doors, heat pumps, HVAC systems, and insulation improvements.

This credit is designed to help homeowners reduce their tax burden while improving their homes' energy efficiency and mitigating rising costs. However, the credits expire on December 31, 2025, due to legislative changes under the One Big Beautiful Bill passed in July 2025.

For those requiring home renovations for medical reasons, such as wheelchair ramps, accessible bathrooms, or installing stairlifts, the costs may be deductible as medical expenses if they exceed 7.5% of adjusted gross income and do not increase property value. This provision helps offset the cost of necessary home adaptations for care.

The updated boost for renovations is part of a broader legislative package aimed at supporting affordable home renovations. This package also addresses Medicaid reform, nursing facility funding, and affordable housing construction, all targeted at helping those in need of care and counteracting rising costs in healthcare and housing.

The boost can help those affected to regain dignity and quality of life, with larger passages and mobile ramps being installable for those who need a wheelchair. Renovations can also make life easier for carers, leading to more independence for those in need of care.

Despite the financial challenges and emotional stress that moving to a care home presents, many people are able to keep their loved ones at home and care for them. The boost can help those in need to lead a better life, providing a financial relief that can make all the difference.

However, the cost of home care renovation can still be high. The boost increase this year, from 4,000 euros to 4,180 euros, is intended to counteract these rising costs and enable people to live with more dignity.

With the new Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit, homeowners and those in need of care can work towards a more sustainable and accessible living environment, making everyday life easier and improving overall quality of life.
