St. Petersburg Flu Cases Drop 8.3% Thanks to Mass Vaccination
The incidence of influenza and acute respiratory viral infections (ARVI) in St. Petersburg has dropped by 8.3% compared to the previous week. This decrease is attributed to a significant vaccination campaign and a shift towards non-flu respiratory viruses.
Over a million St. Petersburg residents have received flu vaccinations, with 348,000 of them being children. The total number of vaccinations reached 1.3 million. While the search for who coordinates flu vaccinations in the city remains ongoing, the vaccination drive has been successful in reducing flu cases.
The decrease in influenza incidence is due to respiratory viruses other than the flu, including SARS-CoV-2, rhinoviruses, and parainfluenza viruses. Vaccination is widely recognised as the most effective way to prevent the flu and its complications.
St. Petersburg residents have shown strong participation in the flu vaccination programme, with over a million people receiving the jab. As the city prepares to start rubella vaccinations from October 1, the decrease in influenza incidence serves as a reminder of the importance of vaccination in protecting public health.
