In the heart of Texas, Camp Mystic, an all-girls summer camp, was hit hard by catastrophic flooding on Friday, 3rd July 2025. The floodwaters tore through the camp, causing widespread destruction and tragically claiming at least 79 lives, according to reports.
Amidst the chaos, one individual stood out for her bravery and quick thinking - Emma Foltz, a counselor at Camp Mystic and a rising senior at Louisiana Tech University in Ruston. Originally from Alexandria, Louisiana, Emma has been serving as a counselor at Camp Mystic for three years.
During the flood, Emma played a heroic role, helping save the lives of 14 campers as the waters rushed in. Her courageous actions did not go unnoticed. Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry publicly expressed his gratitude for her efforts in saving children during the disaster.
President Donald Trump also responded to the crisis, signing a major disaster declaration for Kerr County, activating the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) in Texas. However, Governor Greg Abbott warned that additional rounds of heavy rains could last into Tuesday, leading to more life-threatening flooding.
Sadly, the bodies of 68 people, including 28 children, have been found in Kerr County, according to Sheriff Larry Leitha. At least 41 people are still reported missing after the flash floods, including 10 girls and one counselor - Emma Foltz's fellow camp staff members.
Despite the grim circumstances, Emma's role as a counselor and her quick response during the crisis have earned her commendation from Governor Landry and widespread respect. Her selfless actions serve as a shining example of humanity in the face of adversity.
