Samsung's Ear-EEG: The Future of Wearable Tech Meets Brain Activity Tracking

Samsung is pushing the boundaries of wearable technology with its innovative Ear-EEG prototype. This device, currently under development, measures brain activity via the ear, opening up new avenues in neuromarketing, entertainment, and mental health. However, commercial release is not yet imminent.

The Ear-EEG utilises a miniature electroencephalogram to track brain electrical activity, providing a non-invasive method for monitoring mental states. Samsung has high hopes for its applications, including identifying personal video preferences with 92.86% accuracy using AI.

In the realm of health, Samsung has also developed an AI-based smartwatch monitoring system for early detection of Left Ventricular Systolic Dysfunction (LVSD), a condition responsible for nearly half of all heart failure cases. This demonstrates Samsung's commitment to investing in wearable tech for both consumer and medical purposes.

Looking ahead, Samsung envisions the Ear-EEG being used in educational settings to detect drowsiness, potentially enhancing learning efficiency. Moreover, it has the potential for mental health management and productivity applications, although these are still in the early stages of exploration.

The Ear-EEG prototype, a collaborative effort between Samsung and Hanyang University's Institute of Biomedical Engineering, is expected to hit the market around 2024. Despite its current bulkiness and lack of commercial readiness, Samsung's investment in this technology signals a promising future for wearable tech in various sectors, from entertainment to healthcare.
