Sacha Baron Cohen & Isla Fisher Donate 100K Masks to UK as COVID-19 Cases Surge
The UK has seen a surge in COVID-19 cases, with 177,000 confirmed infections and over 27,000 deaths as of Friday afternoon. Meanwhile, actor Sacha Baron Cohen and his wife Isla Fisher have stepped in to help combat a shortage of personal protective equipment (PPE) for healthcare workers.
The couple, along with the Jewish Community of Ukraine and the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, donated a cargo of PPE to the UK. They partnered with Salesforce, DMGT, and Mail newspapers to send 100,000 masks and 50,000 coveralls via the Mail Force charity. The PPE was airlifted to London's Heathrow Airport on Wednesday.
This generous donation comes at a crucial time, as the UK has been struggling with a shortage of PPE for frontline healthcare workers. A BBC investigation revealed that the government failed to have adequate stockpiles of health insurance when the virus first reached the UK. More PPE is expected to arrive in the country in the coming days.
Sacha Baron Cohen and Isla Fisher's donation of PPE is a welcome boost to the UK's efforts to protect healthcare workers during the COVID-19 pandemic. The UK continues to grapple with the virus, with over 177,000 confirmed cases and more than 27,000 deaths as of Friday afternoon.
