Tucherpark's Rebirth: A Lively Blend of Modern Life & History from 2026
Residential buildings, sports facilities, commercial spaces: these elements are undergoing transformation in Tucherpark
Gear up, Schwabing! The Tucherpark is getting a makeover, and it's set to be a game-changer. Nestled between the English Garden and the Isar, this park is undergoing major renovations to create a residential haven and public green spaces. Here's the lowdown on the transformation.
Setting the Foundations - Planning Ahead
On February 12, the blueprint for Tucherpark's transformation was unveiled to the city council. The plan, a collaboration between various parties and the public, covers over 22 hectares of the park. Munich's Mayor, Dieter Reiter, emphasized, "This master plan draft lays the groundwork for a bustling neighborhood at this extraordinary location between the English Garden and the Isar, bringing together its rich history and modern amenities."
A Shift to Modern Living
The fresh Tucherpark will boast 600 apartments, two child-friendly buildings housing kindergartens and creches, daycare facilities, spaces for 4,000 jobs, eateries, cultural, and sports centers, and public green spaces. During the refurbishment of the historic park walls, care will be taken to ensure they are preserved as historical landmarks. Fitness enthusiasts will appreciate a Padel-Tennis facility, while wave enthusiasts might anticipate a third Eisbach wave.
The Hilton Hotel Munich Park, within the Tucherpark, is undergoing renovation, promising a rooftop restaurant, panoramic bar, a larger ballroom, updated conference rooms, refurbished restaurants, and retail spaces on the ground floor. The hotel is scheduled to reopen in 2029, with the office spaces to be completed by 2026. Sustainability will be a focal point, with the park running on solar and water power.
Reshaping the Tucherpark's Future
The majority of the Tucherpark has seen private ownership since 2019, when it was sold due to lackluster demand. Many buildings currently stand vacant, and rental contracts are nearing their end. Change is on the horizon, as the park requires modernization not just in infrastructure, but also in energy efficiency.
