Railway Worker Discloses Conductor's Duties for Passenger Cars
In the vast and rugged landscape of Yakutia's north, Bogdan Tomsky embarked on a unique journey when he joined Yakutia Railways as a passenger train conductor in May 2021.
Born in the Verkhoyansky District, Bogdan grew up immersed in the outdoors, honing skills in hunting, fishing, and berry picking that would later prove useful in his new role. His rural upbringth also prepared him well for the task of stoking the boilers during cold weather to keep the wagons warm.
Before his career with Yakutia Railways, Bogdan had dreams of a different path. He was drawn to geology and had even enrolled in courses at the Bryazgalov Transport Technical College with the intention of pursuing a career in this field. However, life took a different turn, and he found himself on the rails instead of in the mines.
Bogdan's dedication to his work is rooted in his love for his family. He chose to work for the railway to ensure a secure future for his wife, who hails from Khakassia, and their two young children, Kira (6 years old) and Kirill (3 years old).
As a train conductor, Bogdan's duties extend beyond the confines of the train. He is responsible for passenger boarding and disembarkation, maintaining order in the cabin, and ensuring a comfortable journey for all passengers. Each small act of kindness, such as a warm thank you from a passenger, is considered a victory by Bogdan.
Bogdan's routes with Yakutia Railways have taken him thousands of kilometers from home, reaching as far as Vologda. During these long-distance trips, he finds visiting ancient cities and their attractions fascinating. On occasion, he even discovers mammoth tusks while in his native Verkhoyansky District.
Despite the challenges and long hours, Bogdan has no regrets about his choice to work for the railway. He is the subject of the "Our People" feature for Railway Worker's Day, a testament to his dedication and service. On weekends, he enjoys going into nature with his family, taking photos, and occasionally returning to his native Verkhoyansky District.
