Pupil in Aktobe goes blind post physical altercation with peers at school
In the evening of June 29, a disturbing incident unfolded in the Aviagorodok microdistrict of Aktau, Kazakhstan. According to a statement made by Yerbolat Sarkulov, the head of the press service, the incident was captured on the surveillance cameras of a local supermarket.
The footage shows a 16-year-old boy defending himself against a group of boys. The boy, whose identity has not been disclosed, was reportedly hit in the face, and shards from his broken glasses injured his eye, resulting in him losing 75% of his vision in his right eye.
The initial police investigation opened a case under two articles: hooliganism and infliction of medium bodily harm. However, the investigation into the hooliganism charge was later closed. The boy is now facing surgery and a long recovery, and his relatives are concerned that the second charge may also be downgraded.
The victim's aunt believes that the injury is not "light harm" due to the severity of the incident and the boy's subsequent hospitalization and surgery. The boy can no longer lead his usual life and had to quit sports.
A complex of investigative actions is being carried out, including additional examinations. The results of these investigative actions will determine a procedural decision. The investigation into the criminal case is ongoing, but the name of the person who should resume the investigations in the hooliganism case is not provided in the above article.
