On July 17, 2025, a heartbreaking incident occurred at Thevalakkara Boys High School in Kollam, Kerala. **Midhun**, a Class 8 student, tragically lost his life due to electrocution during a school game.

The unfortunate incident took place around 8:30 AM when Midhun climbed onto a plank to retrieve a slipper that had fallen onto the roof of the school's bicycle shed. In a tragic turn of events, he came into contact with a low-hanging live electric wire, resulting in a fatal shock.

Teachers quickly responded by switching off the transformer and pulling Midhun down. Despite immediate medical attention, he was declared dead at the hospital.

The incident has sparked widespread criticism and public outrage, with calls for accountability from both the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) and the school management. The KSEB is under scrutiny for negligence as locals and the school management had previously complained about the low-hanging wires. Despite these warnings, no action was taken.

The General Education Minister, V Sivankutty, and the Electricity Minister have both called for an urgent inquiry into the incident. The Director of Public Instructions will lead the investigation concerning education authorities.
