In the quiet town of Wolfenbüttel, a concerning incident unfolded on September 1, 2025, at the playground located on Geibelstraße/Ackerstraße. A 1.5-year-old child came into contact with narcotics, leading to an immediate response from the authorities.
The incident occurred between 15:00 and 19:00, during a time when the child was mainly playing in the northeast area of the playground. The child's father arrived around 17:00 and noticed unusual behaviour, apathy, loss of appetite, and a strong fixation on a toy. Concerned, he took the child to the Clinic of Braunschweig, where the child showed symptoms of intoxication.
A urine test showed positive results for cocaine, amphetamines, MDMA, and ecstasy. Further blood tests are pending for confirmation and quantification of substances. The affected playground area was immediately closed by the police and the city of Wolfenbüttel for a thorough search, including the use of drug detection dogs. However, no further narcotics were found.
The child remains in the pediatric intensive care unit but is not in a life-threatening condition.
