Partners unite for secure, healthful work environments in DOL-3 region
In a collective vow to foster safety and well-being in workplaces, the Department of Labor and Employment Regional Office No. 3 (DOLE-3) joins forces with various government entities and organizations. The focus is to create work environments that are free from hazards and conducive to the health of workers.
Last Monday, DOLE-3 partnered with the Occupational Safety and Health Center-Regional Extension Unit 3 at the Clark Development Corporation Multi-Purpose Hall in Clark Freeport. Over 155 business representatives gathered for the signing of the revised Implementing Rules and Regulations of the Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Law. This legislation outlines guidelines for suitable accommodations for construction workers and other provisions aimed at maintaining a secure and wholesome workplace.
During the event, DOLE-3 Director Geraldine M. Panlilio highlighted the vital role of human oversight in the context of advancing workplace safety employing modern technology, such as artificial intelligence (AI). Panlilio stressed that while AI aids in minimizing potential accidents, the human element is pivotal.
"AI by itself won't prevent any accidents, and human judgment is still indispensable," Panlilio said. "AI should only support the old process, making it safer, more personal, more immediate, and more effective. It should remind us that behind all machines, data, and algorithms, there are lives, families, and futures at stake."
The meeting culminated with the signing of the "United for Zero Accidents: A Call to Action" pledge. As part of the Labor Day Celebration on May 1, job fairs will be organized across 69 sites nationwide. A total of 2,281 employers are expected to provide 216,144 job opportunities, including local vacancies and overseas employment.
For this year's Labor Day job fair, Central Luzon is anticipated to offer around 32,000 job openings. Candidates seeking employment are encouraged to reach out to their nearest Public Employment Service Office, DOLE regional and field offices, or visit the respective websites and social media accounts of the Public Employment Services Office and DOLE regional and field offices.
As AI technologies become increasingly integrated into safety practices, human vigilance plays a critical role in several areas: ethical decision-making, error correction, comprehensive risk analysis, and continuous employee training, ensuring that AI-enhanced safety measures are efficient, ethical, and aligned with human standards. This synergy of human oversight and AI technology guarantees a more secure and wholesome work environment for all.
