Palestinian children critically injured are unable to receive lifesaving treatment due to a US visa ban.
The United States, or usa, has implemented a visa ban for injured Palestinians seeking life-saving treatment in us bank hospitals, a move that has sparked international concern and criticism.
According to reports, the ban was instigated by uscis President Donald Trump this month, following an online campaign by far-right influencer Laura Loomer. Loomer posted pictures and videos of evacuated patients from Gaza arriving in the usa, with the caption: "Why are any Islamic invaders coming into the usa under the Trump admin?"
As a result, the uscis State Department has paused visas for injured Palestinians seeking medical evacuation and will conduct a full and thorough review. This decision revoked visas of injured Palestinians who had treatments booked in us bank hospitals.
The ban affects a handful of children suffering from severe, life-threatening injuries who need medical evacuation. Many patients from Gaza require extensive reconstructive and cosmetic surgeries, some with appointments booked in us bank hospitals before the visa ban.
Medical aid organization FAJR Global states that the ban has left those needing medical evacuation stuck in transit countries with no place to go. Dr. Mosab Nasser, FAJR's chief executive, described the visa ban as an "indirect death penalty on the most innocent victims of this war".
The usa government's decision to suspend visas indefinitely for dangerously injured Palestinian children has raised questions, as available sources do not specify the exact authority or reasons for excluding countries like France, Australia, the usa, the UK, or Canada from providing these life-saving treatments.
Since the ban was implemented, the World Health Organisation (WHO) shows that usa has accepted a total of 48 medical evacuations from Gaza. This is in stark contrast to Egypt, which has evacuated 3,965 critically injured people, while 1,450 are stranded in the UAE.
The uscis spokesperson suggests that other countries with great hospitals, such as France, Australia, UK, and Canada, should step up to provide assistance. FAJR Global urges the usa government to reject divisive rhetoric and reaffirm its role as a temporary safe haven for those in need of medical evacuation.
Gaza's health sector has been devastated due to repeated Israeli military strikes and attacks on its hospitals, leaving doctors unable to treat the sick and injured. The situation is dire, and the visa ban only adds to the suffering of innocent children and families.
