Orbis Flying Eye Hospital Lands in Another Country, Transforming Lives Worldwide

The Orbis International Flying Eye Hospital, a unique aircraft providing sight-saving care, has touched down in another country. This remarkable plane, 55 meters long with a wide body and short wingspan, is ideal for remote airports with restricted runways. It's captained by Bryan Hollister, with Capt Gary Dyson, the chief pilot for Orbis International, at the helm for nearly 25 years.

The Flying Eye Hospital, a fully accredited ophthalmic teaching hospital, has been soaring for almost four decades. It's equipped with an operating room, classroom, and recovery space, enabling it to facilitate over 22.3 million eye tests and conduct over 607,000 eye surgeries and laser treatments across 80 countries. This incredible feat is made possible by funding from volunteers and donors, with major support from FedEx.

Bruce Johnson, director of aircraft operations and maintenance, manages the worldwide logistics of this airborne medical marvel. He's joined by a dedicated team using advanced medical technology like 3D-surgical streaming, a mobile simulation center, and a 'telemedicine' platform called Cybersight. These tools help tackle the global vision loss crisis, with 1.1 billion people affected, 90% in low and middle-income countries.

The Orbis International Flying Eye Hospital continues its mission, transforming lives one sight-saving procedure at a time. With its unique design, advanced technology, and passionate team, it remains a beacon of hope for those in need of eye care worldwide.
