Ontario Hospital Coalition Warns of Expanding Privatization Costs
The Ontario Hospital Coalition, a group fighting to preserve public healthcare, has expressed concern over the Ford government's plans to expand privatization. Despite formal complaints and press conferences, the coalition has not received adequate response, leading to fears of increased patient costs and potential loss of public medicare.
The coalition currently operates in various towns and cities across the province but lacks a presence in Burlington due to a shortage of volunteers. They warn that the Ford government intends to extend privatization to orthopedic surgeries and diagnostic services, following the controversial expansion into cataract surgeries.
The coalition alleges that seniors are being charged thousands of dollars for private cataract surgeries, contrary to initial promises. They have heard from multiple individuals, including an 80-year-old woman, a 71-year-old retiree, and a widow, who have had to pay out-of-pocket for these procedures. The coalition believes this privatization will impose a significant financial burden on patients.
The coalition has formed a group called 'Stop Hospital Privatization' in Burlington, ON, to combat these plans. They urge increased opposition to protect public medicare and prevent further financial strain on patients.
