Ontario Health Coalition Warns of Expanding Healthcare Privatization

The Ontario Health Coalition has raised alarm over the Ford government's plans to expand privatization in the healthcare sector. The Coalition, which mobilized against hospital privatization in 2023, is now concerned about the potential inclusion of orthopedic surgeries and diagnostic services like MRIs and CT scans.

The Coalition has accused the government of privatizing public medicare, a claim that has not been adequately addressed despite formal complaints and press conferences. Seniors in Ontario have been hit hard, with many paying thousands for private cataract surgeries, contrary to initial promises. An 80-year-old woman, for instance, was charged $1,500 upfront and nearly $11,000 in total.

The Coalition, which has small groups working across the province, currently lacks volunteers in Burlington. It is calling for increased public attention and action to prevent further loss of public medicare.

The Ontario Health Coalition's concerns about the government's healthcare privatization plans highlight the potential impact on services and patients, particularly seniors. With no group currently active in Burlington, the Coalition urges increased public involvement to safeguard public medicare.
