Shocking Act of Violence Against Doctors in Kazakhstan

In an appalling display of aggression, two dedicated medical professionals at the Karaganda Regional Children's Hospital were the victims of a brutal attack by a family member of one of the patients, as revealed by Liter.kz.

The assault resulted in severe injuries, including concussions, broken noses, extensive bruising, and hematomas. Currently, the doctors are receiving intensive care in the hospital's emergency neurosurgery department. The medical team is rallying to provide the best possible treatment for these courageous healers.

Minister of Health, Akmaral Alnazarova, slammed this act, stating, "This isn't just thuggery; it's an egregious act of violence against those who dedicate their lives to saving others. Such violent outbursts are unacceptable and demand swift action from law enforcement and the condemnation of society as a whole."

Alnazarova went on to confirm that initiatives to safeguard medical practitioners are already underway in the country. Hospitals, clinics, and emergency response services will soon be equipped with video surveillance, while the criminal liability for attacking doctors will be escalated.

"Yesterday, our president highlighted the essential role medical personnel play in maintaining their safety and standing within our society. Regrettably, we still confront people in our midst who undermine this workforce and even jeopardize their safety. Such unlawful actions are unpardonable. Individuals who disrupt public order will be met with the full might of the law," emphasized the president. When medical professionals become targets of violence, it not only inflicts physical but also emotional and psychological suffering, such as baseless accusations and public humiliation, which corrodes the very heart of medicine – trust between patient and physician, and fuels a dangerous culture of impunity in society," Alnazarova stressed.

The minister reinforced her commitment to champion the cause of medical professionals, seeking not only severe consequences for the perpetrators but also comprehensive measures to secure the safety of doctors while they carry out their vital work.

Initial reports suggest that a 38-year-old regional resident attacked two doctors during a heated argument at the Karaganda Regional Children's Hospital on June 12.

Investigations are ongoing.
