Established by Nowak during his tenure as Bishop of Magdeburg in 2002, the Stiftung netzwerk leben aims to aid those in need and those facing hardship, providing both financial and volunteer support to pregnant women, children, men, women, married couples, and families. The foundation additionally advocates for raising societal awareness regarding family matters and pro-life issues. It collaborates closely with pregnancy counseling centers and other specialized consultation departments of Caritas, which its website showcases.
Similarly, the charitable grants originating from Caritas helped provide essential aid, as Claudia Constein, a foundation employee, explained. In 2023, they managed to offer assistance to 50 families for their children's school supplies, with €80 provided for each child. In addition, families were supported with housing subsidies, aid for setting up their homes, or vacation support, according to Constein.
Recently, the foundation provided a €1,400 grant to cover the cost of a corrective orthosis for a 3-year-old child. As of April 2024, the foundation has already disbursed €16,000 in aid. The contribution made by Nowak is most certainly welcome, with Constein expressing gratitude and enthusiasm, stating, "We are overwhelmed and grateful." Nowak himself added, "I have everything I need, and at my age, I don't need gifts anymore. A contribution for families was much more meaningful to me. I am very pleased with the €10,000 donation."
