The future of the Karlsruhe Emergency Center in Ettlingen hangs in the balance, causing concern for many residents of the city. The vital central hub, serving as a crucial anchor in critical situations, is currently facing closure.

The closure of the center, if implemented, would leave many citizens without immediate medical assistance in emergencies. This decision, which is imminent, has raised significant concerns about the provision of medical care for many Karlsruhe residents.

The closure of the emergency practice in Ettlingen has already led to many more patients ending up in nearby hospitals. This strain on healthcare facilities has highlighted the importance of the center for the community.

In an attempt to address these concerns, Mayor Johannes Arnold of the Free Voters is working on a Plan C. This plan involves establishing a municipal medical supply center (MVZ) in Ettlingen. An MVZ is a medical facility where doctors of various specialties treat patients together, often having longer opening hours and better accessibility than classic practices.

The citizens are hopeful that the examination of the MVZ will open up new perspectives and preserve the central hub for people. However, the resistance by the KVBW against the planned closure of the Karlsruher Emergency Center has not prevented the impending closure.

The KVBW has so far reacted little flexibly and only plans an information event shortly before the official closure date. This lack of proactive response has not gone unnoticed by the citizens, who feel that this information event comes too late and is not solution-oriented.

Counties like Rems-Murr have joined the lawsuit against the planned closure, increasing concerns about the provision of medical care for many Karlsruhe residents. The future of the Karlsruher Emergency Center is uncertain, but the city council is set to make a decision regarding the implementation of an MVZ with comparable opening hours and services in mid-September.

As the city waits for this decision, the hope remains that a suitable solution can be found to preserve the vital medical services provided by the Karlsruhe Emergency Center.
