This decrease was observed in approximately 244,000 insured individuals in the region.

On a daily basis, the average number of employees taking a sick day amounted to 50 out of every 1,000, making Baden-Württemberg the area with the lowest sickness rate nationwide. Typically, the first quarter nationwide sees a sickness rate of 6.0%, but this year it was slightly higher at 6.1%.

Respiratory illnesses were the leading cause of missed workdays in the first quarter of the year. Bronchitis, colds, and assorted infections accounted for 141.2 days of absence per hundred employees, marking a nearly 14% increase compared to the prior year. Following close behind were psychiatric illnesses, and musculoskeletal disorders like back pain claimed the third spot.

There has been a general decline in absence from work across the board, aside from respiratory illnesses. This decrease is viewed as a positive development by the health insurance company. DAK regional manager, Siegfried Euerle, shared his sentiment, acknowledging that employee absences take on particular significance amidst Germany's economic struggles.
