Houston resident Shawn Bates meets with a crash and vanishes three days following his surgical procedure.
In the heart of Southwest Houston, a missing person case has left the community in a state of concern. Shawn Bates, a 45-year-old resident, went missing on June 9, 2025, following a car accident on Sandpiper Drive.
Prior to his disappearance, Shawn had undergone surgery and was on pain medication. His medical condition, focal segmental glomeruli-sclerosis, is a serious one that requires immediate attention.
On the fateful day, Shawn was driving his gray Dodge Journey when he crashed into two parked cars and a Metro Lift bus. Despite appearing confused or "out of it" according to eyewitness accounts, Shawn refused medical attention and was last seen walking south on Sandpiper Drive.
His family, particularly his wife, Ebony Ned Bates, and his mother, Sharon Bates, are deeply concerned for his health and safety. It is unusual for Shawn not to return home, and his absence has been a source of worry.
Ebony stated, "Shawn has never disappeared like this before. It's not like him to just leave without letting someone know." Sharon, on the other hand, believes that Shawn was not okay after the crash.
Since Shawn's disappearance, Tim Miller with Texas Equu Search has helped the family scour the area and beyond for any signs of Shawn. The police, however, have no leads as to where Shawn might be.
Sharon hopes that no harm has come to Shawn and that someone has picked him up in a facility that they haven't checked. She urges anyone with information about Shawn's whereabouts to contact Houston's Missing Person's unit at 832-394-1840.
Shawn was last seen wearing a black shirt, black pants, and red/black Jordan sneakers. Surveillance video shows him leaving his home on June 9, intending to go to the store, but he never returned.
It is worth noting that Shawn was planning to start home dialysis, a crucial part of managing his medical condition. His doctor had also stated that he was already starting to develop uremia, a condition that causes mental confusion.
The Houston community is urged to keep a lookout for Shawn Bates and share any information that could help in finding him. Let's work together to ensure the safe return of this missing man.
