Hospitalized Individuals: Relocation of Nest (Hornets)

In the picturesque region of Nordwestmecklenburg, a series of unusual incidents have taken place on a popular walking path between Schloss Bothmer and Gutshaus Stellshagen. Over the weekend, another attack by European hornets occurred, adding to the tension in the area.

These incidents have raised concerns among locals and visitors alike, as European hornets, while generally considered peaceful, can become aggressive when defending their nests. This was the case in the recent incidents, with at least two people reportedly treated in hospital due to the hornet attacks.

The department head, with almost ten years of service, stated that he had never encountered such a problem before. However, it is not the first time such incidents have occurred in the region. In August of the previous year, aggressive hornets were reported on a forest path in the county of Mecklenburgische Seenplatte (Ivenacker Eichen). The forest path was promptly closed during the incident.

The office was first informed about the hornets on Friday of the previous week. Investigations into the aggression attacks by hornets near Klütz in August of the previous year were conducted by local health authorities and emergency services. A pest controller was commissioned over the weekend to remove the nest, but instead of disposing of it, the nest was relocated.

The hornet nest was located directly on the popular walking path, near the local mouse tower. This has led to the closure of the path for safety reasons. European hornets, while protected, are not native to the area and are believed to have been introduced by human activities.

Despite the recent incidents, the county spokesman emphasised that such hornet problems are quite rare. European hornets are generally considered peaceful, and this aggressive behaviour is likely a response to human interference near their nest.

The county has been informed about the hornet incident, and the authorities are working to ensure the safety of the public and to manage the situation effectively. The community hopes for a swift resolution to this unusual problem, allowing them to return to enjoying the beautiful walking paths of Nordwestmecklenburg.
