Hospital faces allegations of medical negligence

In January 2025, a resident of Shu city underwent gallbladder removal surgery at the local city hospital. However, the post-operative period was fraught with complications.

After the surgery, the patient experienced severe pain, fever, and weakness. Despite these symptoms, necessary measures were taken too late to address the patient's condition. As a result, the patient faced significant restrictions in movement and positioning.

Concerned about the delay in addressing her condition, the patient's relatives persistently demanded action. Eventually, the patient was transferred to the Zhambyl Regional Multiprofile Hospital for further treatment.

At the Zhambyl Regional Multiprofile Hospital, an emergency repeat surgery with drainage installation was performed. Over 1500 ml of accumulated bile was found in the patient's abdominal cavity.

The surgeon who performed the initial surgery partially admitted guilt, paying 1 million tenge and covering some of the expenses. The court approved a mediation agreement, and the case was closed following the court-approved mediation.

In addition, the hospital agreed to compensate 2 million tenge. The surgeon, whose name is not publicly disclosed, agreed to pay the plaintiff 400,000 tenge. The court ruling has entered into legal force.

The patient has filed a lawsuit against the city hospital, the surgeon, and the attending physician, accusing them of medical negligence and delayed assistance. The case serves as a reminder of the importance of prompt and proper medical treatment.
