Grocery chain Fiesta Mart introduces 'Medical Station in a Shop' at two of its locations
Fiesta Mart and OnMed Partner to Bring Tech-Enabled Healthcare to Texas Grocery Stores
Fiesta Mart, a subsidiary of Mexican supermarket operator Grupo Comercial Chedraui, is partnering with hybrid healthcare tech company OnMed to expand access to healthcare services in Texas. This partnership will see OnMed's CareStations, equipped with advanced diagnostic tools and telemedicine technology, being installed inside Fiesta Mart stores in Fort Worth and Missouri City, starting from July 2025 [1][2].
The CareStations, which are staffed by licensed clinicians, aim to transform how and where people get healthcare. They will offer tech-enabled primary and urgent care at no cost to visitors, making healthcare more accessible and convenient for the local communities [3].
OnMed's solution combines technology and hybrid care delivery, with the goal of improving health equity by meeting people in everyday places such as grocery stores, homeless shelters, airports, and community centers [2]. This approach addresses healthcare access barriers for underserved populations by situating care points in high-traffic, familiar environments like grocery stores, making care "where and when it is needed most" [2].
The partnership with Fiesta Mart leverages OnMed’s patented CareStation model (8' x 11' kiosks) that provide on-demand healthcare services integrating telemedicine with traditional face-to-face care options [2]. Molina Healthcare of Texas is also involved in supporting this initiative, demonstrating collaboration between tech-care providers and health insurers to expand access [3].
This collaboration is part of a broader movement to integrate healthcare services into community-centric locations. By embedding healthcare services into grocery store environments, Fiesta Mart and OnMed are making healthcare more convenient, accessible, and equitable through technology-driven hybrid care delivered in non-traditional healthcare settings [1][2][3].
Fiesta Mart operates stores under the banners El Super, Fiesta Mart, and Smart & Final. The retailer's stores are located throughout Texas, and Chedraui USA, Inc, which operates Fiesta Mart, is based in Los Angeles, Calif [4]. The OnMed CareStations will be located in private, secure areas of the Fiesta Mart stores.
The OnMed CareStation in Fort Worth Fiesta Mart will be officially unveiled on July 9, with the OnMed CareStation in Missouri City Fiesta Mart following on July 10 [1]. WinCo Foods, which ranked No. 1 on Newsweek's America's Most Trustworthy Companies list, is also exploring similar partnerships with OnMed [5].
With this partnership, every grocery store, every campus, every community center could potentially become a front door to healthcare, making healthcare more accessible and equitable for all.
