Government Official Warken Declares: Autumn Distribution of Pharmaceuticals

In a recent statement, Federal Health Minister Nina Warken has predicted a stable situation in the availability of medicines this fall and winter. The minister's reassurance comes after the implementation of the Anti-Shortage Act in 2023, which was introduced to address acute supply problems with children's medications.

The Anti-Shortage Act, introduced by the Federal Ministry of Justice, relaxed price rules to make deliveries to Germany more attractive for manufacturers. This reform has reportedly improved the situation with children's medications, compared to previous falls.

The minister also plans to give pharmacies more flexibility in exchanging suitable available drugs. This reform aims to provide more leeway for pharmacies in dealing with drugs, ensuring a smoother supply chain this fall and winter.

However, the minister did not specify what constitutes 'appropriate measures' for addressing drug shortages. Neither did she discuss any potential impact of the reform on the guaranteed supply of drugs or mention any changes to the mandatory safety buffer of several months' worth of stocks of frequently used medicines.

In addition, EU regulations, according to Warken, will strengthen the production location of Europe. The minister, however, did not provide specific details about the nature of these additional regulations.

The minister did not provide any updates on the stability of the situation in the availability of medicines this fall and winter. She did mention that prompt measures can be taken to address drug shortages if necessary.

Nina Warken reassured the public that the supply of drugs is guaranteed at both the national and European levels. The minister stated that the drug supply has a very high priority this fall and winter.

In conclusion, while the minister has expressed optimism about the stability of medicine supply this fall and winter, there are still unanswered questions about the specific measures being taken and the potential impact of the reforms on the guaranteed supply of drugs.
