In Kerala, India, a concerning rise in cases of Primary Amoebic Encephalitis (PAM) has been reported. According to the Kerala Minister of Health, Women and Child Development, Veena George, 69 cases of PAM have been recorded since the beginning of this year, resulting in 19 reported deaths. The cause of PAM, a rare but lethal central nervous system infection, is the free-living amoeba Naegleria fowleri, commonly known as the "brain-eating" amoeba.

Last year, Kerala reported 36 cases of PAM and nine deaths. In response to this increase, the Ministry of Health, Women and Family Development has issued an alert in the Kozhikode district, advising people to keep their heads above water in hot springs and other naturally warm water, and to avoid digging in or stirring up sediment in shallow, warm freshwater.

Meanwhile, in Ecuador, President Daniel Noboa has proposed the creation of a special body to draft a new constitution. The proposed constitution would include tougher laws against drug trafficking and organized crime. A referendum is proposed to approve the creation of this constitutional assembly.

In the United States, the suspension of Jimmy Kimmel Live! comes after remarks made about the killing of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk. Nexstar Media Group Inc has also pulled the show from its stations due to the offensive remarks.

In France, an air traffic controller dozed off during a shift, causing a flight from Paris to Corsica to circle above the Mediterranean Sea for 18 minutes. The civil aviation authority has opened an investigation into the "unusual situation."

In a separate incident, a three-month-old child is among the recent deaths from PAM in Kerala, India. The controller tested negative for alcohol, but a possible sanction is under consideration.

These events serve as a reminder of the complexities and unpredictability of the world we live in, highlighting the importance of vigilance and swift action in addressing critical issues.
