Generation Z Reshapes Workplace Norms, Puts Mental Health First

Generation Z, the newest cohort in the workforce, is reshaping workplace norms with its unique perspective on work-life balance. Unlike previous generations, they prioritise mental health over work attendance, challenging traditional employer perceptions.

This shift is largely influenced by the current information environment, encouraging open discussions about therapy, mental health, and burnout among young specialists. Generation Z views work-life balance differently, with employers sometimes misinterpreting their work habits as a lack of responsibility.

To manage Generation Z effectively, managers must adapt. Instead of merely enforcing discipline, they should focus on making work engaging and meaningful. This may involve addressing psychological reasons for absenteeism, such as panic attacks. Some Russian companies, like Yandex and several IT firms, have started to recognise this, implementing more flexible absence management policies and mental health support.

Generation Z's approach to work-life balance, centred around mental health, is a significant change from previous generations. Employers must adapt their management strategies to accommodate this shift, creating engaging work environments and supporting mental health to retain and motivate their Generation Z employees.
