Foundation's One Shot organizing Life-Saving Luau event for student-athletes on Aug. 2 in Erlanger
The Matthew Mangine, Jr. One Shot Foundation is set to host the inaugural Lifesavers Luau, an event focused on student-athlete safety, on August 2, 2025, from 5 to 9 p.m. at the Receptions Event Center in Erlanger, Kentucky.
This tropical-themed event aims to educate the community—especially student-athletes, parents, coaches, and athletic trainers—about the prevention and response to sudden cardiac arrest (SCA), the leading cause of death among student-athletes.
The foundation was established in memory of Matthew Mangine, Jr., who tragically passed away due to sudden cardiac arrest during soccer practice in 2020. Since 2021, the foundation has trained over 26,000 people in hands-only CPR through their TAKE10 program, donated about 100 automated external defibrillators (AEDs) to schools and athletic organizations, and provided over $100,000 in emergency medical and training equipment.
The Lifesavers Luau will provide an interactive environment for attendees to learn about CPR techniques, how AEDs operate and are used, comprehensive emergency action plans, and panel discussions with coaches and athletic trainers responsible for athlete safety. Each ticket purchase includes a buffet dinner and complimentary drinks.
Ticket pricing is as follows: $15 for student-athletes, $30 for athletic trainers, coaches, and school personnel, and $40 for community members.
The Lifesavers Luau is part of the comprehensive emergency action plans recommended for any athletic program or organization. It reflects the foundation’s mission to prevent future losses from cardiac emergencies in youth sports by equipping communities with the necessary knowledge and tools to respond effectively.
With millions of students returning to athletic programs this fall, the Lifesavers Luau could not come at a more crucial time. For more event details, please visit www.oneshot.life.
