Flight attendants warned to employ disposable diapers as a protective measure against COVID-19

In the face of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the Civil Aviation Administration of China has published new guidelines for the country's aviation industry. These guidelines, developed following a study that found the coronavirus can spread in aircraft from asymptomatic carriers, aim to limit exposure and contain the virus.

One of the measures included in these hygiene rules is the advice for flight attendants to wear disposable underwear. This recommendation is primarily to protect them from COVID-19 infection, especially during long and controlled flights where stringent quarantine and infection control measures make it difficult or risky for them to leave their seats for bathroom breaks.

Wearing disposable underwear helps flight attendants avoid removing their personal protective equipment (PPE) and reduces potential contamination risk while ensuring they can stay on duty without interruption. This practice is consistent with well-documented public health strategies during the pandemic, especially in contexts involving strict containment measures.

The guidelines also advise flight attendants to avoid using restrooms to minimize infection risk. Reports from Almaty.tv and Lenta.ru have confirmed this advice, emphasizing the importance of maintaining safety and efficiency on flights.

The new guidelines outline hygiene rules to follow in airports and aircraft during the pandemic, with flight attendants in China being advised to wear personal protective equipment, including masks, goggles, gloves, and disposable underwear. This comprehensive approach to safety reflects the industry's commitment to ensuring the health and wellbeing of its staff and passengers during these challenging times.

  1. To further bolster the health and wellness of flight crews, the guidelines suggest incorporating science, such as wearing personal protective equipment including masks, goggles, gloves, and disposable underwear, which can help in preventing the spread of medical-conditions like COVID-19.
  2. In alignment with health-and-wellness practices and fitness-and-exercise principles, the aviation industry encourages avoiding the use of restrooms on flights to decrease infection risk and maintain efficient operations, reflecting a holistic approach to wellbeing amid the ongoing pandemic.
