After a 12-week program, participants reported significant improvements in desire, intercourse satisfaction, performance, confidence, partner synchronization, erection, ejaculatory control, and orgasm.

The mechanisms behind yoga's benefits for sexual health are not yet fully understood. A review of existing literature helps elucidate some potential reasons. Yoga is thought to regulate attention and breathing, lower anxiety and stress, and activate the part of the nervous system responsible for relaxation. These effects, according to the reviewers, are associated with improvements in sexual response.

Psychological mechanisms also play a role. Female yoga practitioners have been found to be less likely to objectify their bodies and more aware of their physical selves. This awareness may lead to increased sexual responsibility, assertiveness, and desire.
