Univers, a leading figure in AI for energy, plans to debut Malaysia's initial Net Zero Centre of Excellence.

Energy conglomerate Univers, a prominent name in global AI, is set to establish Malaysia's initial Net Zero Centre of Excellence.

In an exciting development for the digital and environmental sectors, Univers and the Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation (SDEC) have joined forces to create Malaysia's first Net Zero Centre of Excellence in Kuching, Sarawak.

This partnership aims to explore how digital tools can improve energy efficiency, reduce emissions, and drive operational excellence, aligning with Sarawak's broader ambition to build a digitally driven and environmentally sustainable economy as outlined in the Sarawak Digital Economy Blueprint 2030.

The new Centre will serve as a hub for innovation, bringing together digital intelligence and climate ambition. Univers, a global leader in AI for Energy, will lead the charge, with Eastwest PR as its partner agency.

The partnership will focus on three core areas: Advisory and Enablement, R&D and Innovation, and Commercial Deployment. The Centre will design digital strategies, establish Open Labs, Testbeds, and Living Labs, and launch real-world Net Zero projects.

While the timeline for establishing the Centre is not explicitly detailed, relevant contextual information indicates key related events and initiatives centered around late 2025. The International Digital Economy Conference Sarawak (IDECS25) is scheduled for 22–23 October 2025, focusing on themes such as where digital meets green, which aligns with net zero and sustainability initiatives.

Moreover, Malaysia has shown active progress in sustainable development, including the establishment of its first net-zero building, the Wetlands Arboretum Centre at Gamuda Cove. The emphasis on ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) and green transformation in Malaysia's and ASEAN’s events in 2025 suggests favorable policy and strategic support that would underpin launching a Net Zero Centre of Excellence at or soon after 2025.
