East Trenton Emergency Room services halted by Capital Health due to structural challenges in adjacent building

In a surprising turn of events, Capital Health has announced the sudden closure of its Trenton satellite emergency room located at the East Trenton site. This decision has sparked concern and disappointment within the community, particularly among its residents who rely heavily on this vital healthcare service.

Trenton Mayor Reed Gusciora has expressed his disapproval, considering the closure as unacceptable given the emergency room's significant role in the city's healthcare landscape. He has also confirmed that there was no formal determination or assessment made about the building by the New Jersey Department of Health. A city inspector has been dispatched to evaluate the structure of the building.

The closure comes as a blow to the community, as patients seeking emergency or acute care services are now being directed to Capital Health Regional Medical Center in Trenton and Capital Health Medical Center - Hopewell. Outpatient services have also been diverted to other facilities.

Capital Health took over St. Francis Medical Center in 2022, and with the closure of the East Trenton emergency room, Capital Health Regional Medical Center has become Trenton's only hospital. Al Maghazehe, president and CEO of Capital Health, expressed his frustration and disappointment about the sudden closure, stating that they will work to ensure continued access to care for Trenton residents and those nearby.
