Dipped Strawberries Coated with Chocolate
Here's a fun and simple recipe for colorful chocolate-dipped strawberries that'll brighten up any dessert spread. And creative kids will surely love them!
Now, dipping strawberries in quick-melted chocolate can lead to white streaks (a bloom or separation), so we advise tempering the chocolate. To temper chocolate, follow this easy process:
- Melt about two-thirds of high-quality dark chocolate (like Ghirardelli) slowly in a heat-resistant bowl over simmering water. Avoid overheating, as it can cause the chocolate to seize.
- Remove the melted chocolate from the heat, and let it cool down to around 82°F (28°C). You can also check the temperature with a thermometer.
- Melt the remaining one-third of the chocolate (seed) separately to about 86-90°F (30-32°C). Add this to the cooled chocolate, and stir gently until the mixture becomes smooth and glossy. If the chocolate starts to solidify at room temperature, it's properly tempered!
Once the chocolate is tempered, use it to dip and coat your perfectly dried strawberries. Ensure your hands are clean, and the chocolate isn't too warm to avoid condensation on the berries.
For an extra fun twist, make some strawberry tuxedos by melting white chocolate and dipping the strawberries in it before dipping them in tempered dark chocolate. Pipe three chocolate buttons on the white "shirt" of the strawberry to complete the look. It's like giving your strawberries a fancy party outfit!
