Decreased Labor Force Participation on National Holidays
In a recent survey conducted by Bitkom Research, it has been revealed that a significant number of working Germans are reachable during the Christmas holidays. The study, which interviewed 1,002 individuals, including 473 working people on vacation during the festive season, sheds light on the work habits of Germans during this period.
The survey found that 61% of working Germans are reachable during their Christmas vacation, with a majority being reachable by phone (71%), text message (56%), and email (43%). Interestingly, every fifth person (21%) is reachable during the holidays because they choose to be.
The survey also showed that 44% of the respondents want to meet the expectations of their colleagues during the Christmas holidays, while 28% want to meet the expectations of their customers.
Interestingly, the study found that those who work from home, either fully or partially, are more likely to be reachable during their Christmas vacation. 71% of these individuals are professionally reachable, compared to 48% of those who do not work from home.
The survey also revealed that 42% of working Germans are open to professional video calls during their Christmas vacation.
Industries such as retail, customer service, and healthcare typically have the highest proportions of employees who remain professionally reachable during the Christmas holidays. However, specific quantitative data by sector for Christmas holidays was not provided in the survey results. In general, 40% of employees in Germany respond to work matters during vacation periods, while on major holidays like Christmas Eve only about 12% report responding to work-related messages.
Overall, the survey provides valuable insights into the work habits of Germans during the Christmas holidays, highlighting the importance of maintaining professional connections during this period.
