Creamy Artichoke Cheese Spread

Crank up the flavor at your next game day bash with this scrumptious, crowd-pleasing Cheesy Artichoke Dip! Here's the lowdown:

Shopping List:Embrace quality ingredients for this recipe. Steer clear of the pre-grated cheese - it's flavorless. If Gruyère ain't your jam, aged cheddar makes a worthy swap.

Panko breadcrumbs, a Japanese-style coarse breadcrumb, can be found in most grocery stores.

Game Strategy: It's party time, and you don't want your dip turning into a soupy mess as it cools. This version weaves in some flour to give your dip structure and consistency as it chills.

Cook up the dip through step 3, then pop it in the fridge for up to a day. When the big moment arrives, let it rest for 15 minutes before baking it to perfection.

This tasty treat was featured in our Super Bowl Party Playbook menu.

  • Difficulty: A breeze!
  • Total Time: 50 minutes
  • Active Time: 20 minutes

Groceries (10)

  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 5 cloves garlic, finely chopped
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup finely grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 2 cans (14 oz) artichoke hearts, drained & coarsely chopped
  • 1/4 cup sour cream
  • 1 cup shredded Gruyère (or substitute with Emmental, Swiss, Havarti, Fontina, Asiago, or Provolone)
  • 1/2 cup panko breadcrumbs

Game Plan:

  1. Heat the oven to 375°F and position a rack in the center.
  2. Melt butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Add onion, garlic, salt, and pepper. Sauté until the onion turns golden-brown, about 6 minutes. Stir in flour and cook, stirring constantly, until the raw taste disappears, around 1 minute.
  3. Sprinkle in 3/4 cup Parmesan, pour in heavy cream, and keep stirring until the mixture comes together. Add artichoke hearts, sour cream, and 1/2 cup of your preferred cheese option, then stir until the cheese melts.
  4. Transfer dip to an 8x8 inch baking dish and top with remaining Parmesan, cheese, and panko. Bake until heated through, bubbly, and the cheese is melted, around 30-35 minutes. Let it rest for 5 minutes before serving with crackers or pita chips.

Insight:

While Gruyère is delightful, if you'd like to experiment with different cheeses, consider these options: Emmental, Swiss, Havarti, Fontina, Asiago, or Provolone. Each of these cheeses brings its unique flavor and melting properties to the dip, making each bite a delectable adventure!
