Commencement of the building process for the upcoming hospital in Flensburg is underway - Commencement of hospital building project in Flensburg underway
The Fjord Clinic Katharinen-Hospital has announced the beginning of its construction in Flensburg, marking a significant milestone in the German healthcare sector. The new hospital will be built on the Peelwatt site, replacing the existing building.
For the first time, a partnership-based Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) model will be consistently implemented for a hospital's construction in Germany. This multi-party contract involves all project stakeholders, ensuring a collaborative approach that is key to future-proof healthcare construction, according to Fjord Clinic CEO Thorsten Stolpe.
The construction phase for the new hospital has officially begun, with the exact details of the construction plan still in the process of being created. The plan aims to set a nationwide precedent, reflecting a forward-thinking approach. The construction will be carried out under this IPD model, which includes all project stakeholders.
The start of construction is scheduled for late 2026. However, no information is available regarding the name of the construction company or architectural group planning and building the new Fjord-Klinikum Katharinen-Krankenhaus.
It's worth noting that the hospitals in Flensburg, Catholic Malteser Hospital St. Franziskus-Hospital and the Protestant Diakonissen-Krankenhaus, signed a merger agreement in 2022. The new hospital, scheduled to be ready for occupancy in 2030, will move into its new building, marking a new era for healthcare in Flensburg.
Stay tuned for more updates as the details of the construction plan are disclosed in due course.
