Central government's AYUSH Ministry deliberates over establishing a centralized online platform for disseminating comprehensive knowledge at a national level.
In a significant move towards modernising the AYUSH sector, Kerala is hosting a two-day national workshop on 'IT Solutions for AYUSH Sector' at Kumarakom. The event, organised by the National AYUSH Mission Kerala (NAM Kerala) in association with the State's AYUSH Department and the Union Ministry of AYUSH, is being inaugurated by Kerala Health Minister, Veena George.
Veena George emphasised the importance of bridging the digital divide in the AYUSH sector, stating that the implementation of centralised IT solutions will bring about revolutionary changes. She also highlighted the responsibility of the AYUSH sector, which is not only to treat patients but to ensure a healthy society overall.
The workshop aims to ensure that no State or union territory is left out in the AYUSH sector's digital services. NAM Kerala Director, D Sajith Babu, reiterated this, stating that the goal is to ensure that all regions have access to digital AYUSH services for easy accessibility to Ayurveda and other indigenous treatment systems.
The workshop advocates for interstate cooperation to achieve this goal. IT solutions, according to D Sajith Babu, will improve transparency and provide the best treatment system to the public. Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, Union AYUSH Secretary, and Kavita Jain, Joint Secretary, Ministry of AYUSH, among others, are present at the workshop.
Kerala has made significant strides in digitization, as per the Health Minister. The State has developed a comprehensive wellness system rooted in ancient Indian texts dating back more than 3,500 years. For this, Rajan N Khobragade, Kerala's Additional Chief Secretary (Health), stressed the need for a large amount of data collection and IT solutions using modern technology in the AYUSH sector across the country.
In line with this, the Union AYUSH Ministry is planning to introduce a centralised website system for all states. The new 'Nivesh' portal, aimed at tapping investment opportunities in the AYUSH sector, has been launched by the Ministry of AYUSH and Invest India two-and-a-half months ago. The 'Nivesh' portal is being made available to all States and union territories.
The workshop is timely, given the increasing importance of digital health platforms and AI tools in the modern era. Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, Union AYUSH Secretary, reaffirmed this, stating that these tools are crucial in the AYUSH sector's digital transformation.
The workshop is taking place at a time when Kerala is making headlines for its digital initiatives. The event is a testament to the State's commitment to leveraging technology to improve healthcare and wellness services. The workshop concludes on September 19, 2025.
