Body Tremor Therapy: Treatment Designed to Instigate Shaking for Healing Purposes
Tension and Trauma Releasing Exercises (TRE), devised by Dr. David Berceli, offer a unique approach to healing deep-seated tension and trauma. This technique employs a series of gentle exercises to induce neurogenic tremors, which are natural vibrations that help relax the nervous system and promote tranquility.
TRE bypasses the thinking brain to engage directly with the brainstem, which triggers instinctual responses like neurogenic tremors. These body-led exercises allow stored stress patterns to be released through the autonomic nervous system, lowering stress hormones such as cortisol and promoting a sense of physiological safety, essential for healing.
The exercises typically start with warming up muscles, particularly the psoas muscle, which is known to store stress. This process enables the body to safely discharge tension through tremors. One of the advantages of TRE is that it does not necessitate recalling traumatic events; instead, it allows the body to heal autonomously by stimulating its innate capacity to release stress.
Over the years, I have witnessed remarkable transformations in individuals seeking relief from anxiety, tension, and exhaustion. Common people, like you and me, have found solace and renewal through TRE. Stories of healing include a doctor with fibromyalgia regaining trust in her body, a psychologist discovering new insights about herself, and a woman experiencing deep sleep again after years of insomnia following a TRE session. Each story is unique, but a recurring theme is a sense of relief, peace, and returning home to one's body.
I do not use the word "miracle," but I do believe in the body's wisdom when given space. That is why, with love and conviction, I teach TRE at Columbia Foundation, offering introductory workshops and training for those who wish to become certified facilitators. The wisdom of TRE lies in its ability to change the way we inhabit our lives, not to alter history, but to approach it with a heightened sense of well-being.
