She later moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico, where she graduated from Highland High School and the University of New Mexico (UNM).

Betsy spent many years as a teacher in the Albuquerque Public Schools, inspiring countless students. She was a lifelong learner, always seeking new knowledge and opportunities to grow. She was a member of the Junior League of Albuquerque, Pi Beta Phi Alumni Club, Mensa, the Assistance League of Albuquerque, and the Episcopal Cathedral of St. John Altar Guild.
