Artificial intelligence mental health platform, Sword Health, raises $40 million in funding, set to debut
SWORD Health, a mental health company, has secured $40 million in funding at a valuation of $4 billion. The funds will be used to expand and accelerate the development and deployment of SWORD's AI-powered mental health platform, called Mind.
Mind is an innovative AI-powered solution designed to provide virtual-first care, proactively predicting, preventing, and engaging individuals in mental health treatment before problems escalate. The platform mirrors SWORD's existing AI Care model for musculoskeletal (MSK) conditions, which uses AI to detect high-risk members early and deliver tailored care plans remotely.
The funding will also support the evolution of SWORD's AI-driven approach, enhancing its "Always-On AI" capabilities that continuously monitor and engage users across health domains, including mental health, with personalized interventions to improve outcomes and reduce costly acute events.
Sword Health plans to scale its international partnerships, particularly with healthcare providers and systems such as NHS trusts in the UK, to implement AI-enabled care at scale. The investment will also help expand Mind's reach alongside its MSK solutions.
The offering aims to address the limitations of traditional, episodic therapy by providing proactive, real-time care. Mind combines SWORD's proprietary AI therapist, Phoenix, with licensed clinicians and the wearable M-band device. This integration allows for continuous, personalized mental health support.
The funding round was led by General Catalyst, with Khosla Ventures and Comcast Ventures also participating. The funds will also be used to fuel the continued development of foundational AI models across major areas of care and to accelerate SWORD's mergers and acquisitions strategy.
As part of this strategic expansion, SWORD Health is currently hiring, with a total of 49 job openings available, particularly in the Tech and Startup sectors. The positions are based in New York City.
This investment supports SWORD’s efforts to integrate mental health offerings with existing benefits programs, aiming for outcome-based pricing models that ensure measurable ROI for employers and health plans, improving accessibility, usage, and workforce productivity. SWORD Health will also continue innovating payment models where clients pay based on member engagement and clinical outcomes, aligning incentives to maximize the effectiveness of Mind and the broader AI Care services.
In summary, the $40 million will drive SWORD Health’s strategic expansion of Mind as an AI-powered mental health platform, enhance AI capabilities for continuous virtual care, scale international partnerships, and reinforce outcome-focused employer benefit solutions targeting both mental and physical health.
