Time for a Change at Rommersdorf Festival: Liederabend Steps in for Jedermann

Excitement abounds as the Rommersdorf Festival, set in the stunning Neuwied district of Heimbach-Weis, gears up. The cultural series kicks off soon, and ticket sales are in full swing. However, a program modification has been announced for June 13th, the opening night, due to health reasons. Ticket holders can request refunds if they so desire.

Usually, the Free Stage Neuwied spearheads the Festival's opening night, with a performance of the traditional "Everyman." Unfortunately, Boris Weber from the Free Stage Neuwied can't take on the challenging dramatic production on the opening Friday due to health issues. Instead, he promises to serenade the festival audience with a Liederabend on the same date. "We're ecstatic that we can still offer the opening night with Boris Weber, albeit without the 'Everyman' production," shares Klaus Kurz from the municipal cultural office. "We're hopeful that the musical program will meet our audience's taste, and we wish Boris a swift recovery."

Liederabend is a German term denoting an evening of songs, particularly in the classical music realm. It encompasses a concert event featuring a singer (or singers) and pianist performing art songs, often from the German Lied tradition, such as Schubert, Schumann, and Brahms' settings of poems to music[2][5]. These performances tend to be more intimate than opera or large choral works, focusing on the emotional connection between text and music.

While the sources don't explicitly state that Jedermann is being replaced by Liederabend at the Rommersdorf Festival, the shift appears to be artistic in nature[2][4]. Jedermann, a dramatic spoken-word play, is often featured in religious or community events, such as festivals. Replacing it with a Liederabend would transition the programming to a musical recital, highlighting vocal artistry and celebrating German musical heritage in a more intimate, chamber-style atmosphere. This change may be driven by artistic direction, audience preferences, or a desire for musical enrichment; however, the specific motivation behind the substitution at the Rommersdorf Festival remains undefined in the available sources.

Tickets purchased for the modified night remain valid, but ticket holders who prefer refunds can request them. Tickets for the affected evening can be returned until Friday, June 20th, at the Tourist Information, with a small form required for processing. A cash refund will not be available immediately. Refunds are also possible at the event area's entrance on the evening of the event.

The shift in the Rommersdorf Festival's opening night program on June 13th from the traditional "Everyman" to a Liederabend signifies a move towards a health-and-wellness lifestyle, embracing a more intimate, classical music recital in the spirit of German musical heritage, as opposed to the dramatic spoken-word play, Jedermann. Festival-goers who prefer refunds for the modified evening can request them before June 20th.
