Annual World Cancer Day Highlights Five Innovative Companies Pioneering Early Detection of Cancer in Its Initial Stages

In the ongoing battle against cancer, several Indian startups are making significant strides in early detection and diagnosis. Quest Diagnostics, a leading provider of diagnostic information services, is at the forefront of this effort, offering a wide range of cancer diagnostic tests.

One such company is Onward Health, which has developed a computer vision-based tool for analyzing cancer samples. Moreover, Onward Health's histopathology tool can process twice as many samples with the same resources, potentially expediting the diagnostic process.

Another promising venture is Exocan, which has created a technology that examines patient biofluids (blood, saliva, or urine) for more accurate and less expensive cancer diagnoses. Although Exocan's technology is yet to undergo large-scale trials, it is expected to perform well for its speed and accuracy, providing diagnoses within 2 days.

Niramai, another Indian startup, offers 'Thermalytix', an AI-powered solution that uses thermal sensing for early detection of breast cancer. 'Thermalytix' can detect tumors that are 5 times smaller than what other clinical examinations can, making it an invaluable tool in early detection. This solution is particularly beneficial for small towns as it requires minimal equipment for setup.

Sascan, another innovative company, has developed a multispectral camera that screens the mouth for early and precancerous cells at an affordable price. Sascan's machine learning algorithm guides technicians to affected tissues for biopsy, ensuring precision in the diagnostic process.

The World Health Organization emphasizes the need for advanced cancer treatment solutions to reduce cancer-related deaths. In this regard, startups like Niramai and Exocan are working tirelessly towards early cancer detection, even as the world grapples with infections and limited health resources.

In 2018, the National Institute of Cancer Prevention and Research recorded 22.5 lakhs cancer patients, underscoring the urgent need for such innovative solutions. More than 11 lakh people are detected with cancer every year in India, highlighting the need for more efficient and affordable diagnostic tools.

Theranosis, based in Hyderabad, is another startup making waves in the field. They have developed an innovative chip that helps detect cancer cells in blood circulation. Known as 'agnostic micro fluids lab-on-a-chip', this technology mimics blood flow activity in a capillary.

Early cancer detection can help contain the spread of the disease and increase the chances of negating it. With these groundbreaking startups leading the charge, the future of cancer detection in India looks brighter than ever.
