Busted! Listeria Outbreak Forces Major Recall of Ready-to-Eat Foods
Alert on Ready-to-Eat Foods Due to Listeria Risk; 10 Hospitalized in California and Nevada
Straight up, dudes and dudettes! The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has sent waves through the food industry with a major recall of ready-to-eat foods linked to a Listeria outbreak.
Ready-to-eat sandwiches, pasta, and snacks from several brands, including Fresh & Ready Foods, City Point Market Fresh Food to Go, and Fresh Take Crave Away, are in the crosshairs.
These bad boys were sold between April 18 and April 28, 2025, in Arizona, California, Nevada, and Washington at various retailers, convenience stores, airports, and even some food service spots like hospitals and hotels. So, if you've been noshing on the go, you might want to check your pantry.
The products in question have "Use By" dates between April 22, 2025, and May 19, 2025, and were distributed across the four aforementioned states. No wonder so many folks are hitting the can for a good cleanse!
Ten people have already been hospitalized due to the Listeria outbreak, with infections reported between December 2023 and September 2024, as per the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). Fresh & Ready Foods themselves have admitted that although no illnesses have been reported related to the specific products distributed between April 18, 2025, and April 28, 2025, they're pulling the plug as a precautionary measure. Smart move, folks!
Now, if you've got any of these recalled items in your fridge, it's best to toss 'em out. The FDA suggests giving your fridge a good cleaning and sanitizing, too, just to be safe. And if you're curious about which specific products are on the naughty list, head on over to the FDA's website.
The FDA started investigating the Listeria cluster back in 2023 but couldn't pinpoint a source. They reopened the investigation last month after finding Listeria in samples from Fresh & Ready Foods during a routine surveillance inspection, and they found the listeria strain matching that causing the outbreak.
So, let's keep our health games tight! Stay well, and make sure to check out the FDA's list of recalled items. You never know, it might save you from a world of discomfort! Keep it clean, folks!
