Düsseldorf, Germany, has announced a series of relaxations to COVID-19 measures, effective from June 11, 2021. The city's 7-day incidence has fallen below 35, aligning with the general trend of gradual relaxation of restrictions in Germany.

Mayor Dr. Stephan Keller announced these relaxations, highlighting the collective effort of Düsseldorf residents in adhering to mask requirements and the ban on staying and consuming alcohol in public spaces. The local mask requirement in public spaces, including the old town, the Rhine promenade, the city center, and the main station, will be lifted.

Outdoor and indoor theaters, operas, cinemas, and sports facilities will now allow up to 1,000 people or 33 percent of the capacity, whichever is lower. This is subject to the availability of negative tests, a seating plan, and a seating arrangement in a chessboard pattern. Private contacts in public spaces are now allowed without restrictions for members of five households. Meetings in public spaces for 100 people with a negative test from any households are also now permitted.

The local ban on staying and consuming alcohol in the area of the old town and the Rhine promenade will be lifted. However, the mask requirement as provided by the Corona Protection Ordinance of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia remains in effect, primarily in closed spaces such as buses, trains, retail, doctor's practices, or at hairdressing services.

Non-professional rehearsals can now take place indoors with 50 people and a test, with singing/brass instruments allowed with 30 people and a test. From September 1, 2021, sports events without a limit on the number of people will be permitted with an approved concept and negative tests. The test requirement does not apply to events outside of sports facilities.

City Director and Crisis Staff Leader Burkhard Hintzsche appeals for continued adherence to distancing rules and mask requirements. Fully vaccinated and recovered persons in the sense of the federal exceptional regulation are not counted in the above public meetings.

These relaxations are a step towards normalcy, but it is crucial for everyone to continue following safety guidelines to prevent the spread of COVID-19. For the most precise and up-to-date information, refer to official city or state government communications or health department announcements from the specified period.

The relaxations in Düsseldorf's COVID-19 measures, including the lifting of mask requirements in certain public spaces and the increased capacity for outdoor and indoor venues like theaters, cinemas, and sports facilities, are a significant step within the health-and-wellness sector. Meanwhile, politics in the region must continue to address the ongoing need for safety guidelines and adherence to mask requirements, following the advice of City Director Burkhard Hintzsche, particularly in closed spaces, as the fight against the spread of COVID-19 remains an essential component of general-news and science reports.
